“I think the kids understand how much it took for us to come from where we were,\u00a0you know, back in Kashmir, and where we are now. I think they respect us for that,\u00a0and realize that it was not a simple task, it was not just, you know\u2014 it\u2019s a journey;\u00a0it\u2019s a lot of planning, it\u2019s a lot of hard work before, to be able to make the grades to\u00a0be able to apply, and a lot of hard work since we\u2019ve come here; it\u2019s not been an easy\u00a0journey, I have to say, it\u2019s only now that we\u2019re getting very\u2014 we\u2019re getting\u00a0comfortable. I\u2019m not sure how much, being that they are born and brought up here,\u00a0I\u2019m not sure how much of an impact it\u2019s making on them, so they understand; we\u00a0talk about it a lot, only in the sense that we want them to have some basic values.\u00a0You know, that life isn\u2019t easy, it\u2019s hard work; every morning when they say \u201cNo, I\u00a0don\u2019t want to go to school at 7AM in the snow.\u201d, you have to bring out those stories\u00a0of how you did what you did, how you traveled through snow, and how you went to\u00a0your tuitions and school and kept pushing for good grades.<\/p>\n

I think, for the family, for the children, I think it is good to know that there are\u00a0others from the same background and in the same situation where parents\u00a0immigrated, and now they are all in the same boat, where we\u2019re all American, we are\u00a0from\u2014 you know, we\u2019re not born American, but our kids are; and to try to\u2014 try to\u00a0ease their, any conflicts in them, I think it\u2019s good to have the community grow and\u00a0expand, the way it is.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
