“In general, the Muslim youth have a very distinctive challenge, and this is probably\u00a0very similar to a lot of the immigrant communities, but it has a different connotation\u00a0when it comes to religious difference, and that is the double identities: the fact that\u00a0you have a very strong cultural atmosphere at home, and then you have a very\u00a0different life that you have outside of the home. And children, especially the youth,\u00a0have a very difficult time balancing those two; so a lot of the youth have a very\u00a0difficult challenges with that, balancing their religious and their cultural\u00a0requirements, at the same time trying to take on some of the new culture and new\u00a0practices that their friends and the environment that they live in practices, and\u00a0finding out which one to take and which one to leave behind. So as part of the youth\u00a0leaders early on here, that was one of the biggest challenges that we have to\u00a0overcome.<\/p>\n

I would like to see a very connected community, a community that is connected with\u00a0wherever they are. At the same time, a community that\u2019s an example; I mean, if our\u00a0religion teaches us to be exemplars, to be the exemplars of mankind, then we have\u00a0to play that role. We have to get to the point where that community is looked upon\u00a0for other communities look at us for\u2014as an example, as a community to follow. You\u00a0know, when people want free healthcare or free clinics, they should know that, you\u00a0know, we go to the Muslim clinic because they give us a free clinic. They should\u00a0know that whenever there\u2019s a need \u2018cause that\u2019s, you know, that\u2019s a tradition of the\u00a0prophet, that\u2019s the tradition that we\u2019re supposed to carry on. Yeah, I know we came\u00a0here and, you know, we struggled\u00a0but\u00a0eventually we\u2019re gonna have to get up, crawl, and start walking, and eventually run\u00a0and be part of this framework and, you know, build the legacy that was built on by\u00a0the early settlers here in Minnesota. The people that came here didn\u2019t expect, when\u00a0they were in this poor conditions in, you know, as farmers, they didn\u2019t know that\u00a0694 was gonna be here, 94\u2019s gonna be here, you know, these big buildings and all\u00a0this\u2014they didn\u2019t expect that. They were given this flat land and they were asked to\u00a0make something out of it, and that\u2019s, you know, that\u2019s a tall order, and I think the\u00a0Muslim community came here and they were brought here and, you know,\u00a0whichever way and they\u2019re now asked to be part of this community; and the least\u00a0they can do is to be part of the community, but also be part of the exemplar part of\u00a0the community. And I think that\u2019s my hope for the future.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
