“I have been host for them for the past almost four years, and on topics that\u00a0are most of the time chosen by people like the Minnesota Department of Health, and\u00a0other healthcare-related organizations, or safety\u2014we also covered topics that are\u00a0related to safety in case of emergency preparedness and stuff like that. So the topic\u00a0is chosen based on whatever the need is or information that otherwise those\u00a0communities won\u2019t get from mainstream media. So, we host a monthly show\u00a0through TPT\u2014TPT Minnesota, Twin Cities Public Television Minnesota.Shows such\u00a0as cancer, such as what would you do if there was tornado warning?; or, let\u2019s say if\u00a0there\u2019s a fire, or children\u2019s dental health\u2014it\u2019s a really wide\u2014wide variety of topics\u00a0here that are covered, and it\u2019s really important work because I feel like the ECHO\u00a0show is more popular than my radio show because every time I walk into a\u00a0shopping center, Somali shopping center, or a place where the community\u2014there\u00a0are at least one or two people that watch the show and they were like, oh, we say\u00a0you on TV! Or, have I seen you somewhere? And I\u2019m like, probably ECHO TV. So, a lot\u00a0of people watch it, a lot of people benefit from it, and I even benefit from it; every\u00a0time I\u2019m at those meetings prepping for the show, or doing the actual show, I\u2019m\u00a0learning one or two things.<\/p>\n

Well, my relationship with being\u2014well, I view myself to be somewhat both,\u00a0you know, Somali but then as Minnesotan as it gets. I work with them, I go to school\u00a0with them, I\u2019m one of them. When I\u2019m at school, I can hardly differentiate between\u00a0the two. So I feel like I, especially with my work at KFAI, I get to learn a lot of things\u00a0for my own good, which is, you know, basically the view of people that are not\u00a0necessarily Somali, of the Somali community, view of my community, of the others\u00a0and just\u2014I feel like I live in the best of both worlds and I really enjoy it.<\/p>\n

I feel like right now, although it\u2019s a really tough time for Muslims in\u00a0Minnesota, I somehow feel good about the future because every new wave of\u00a0immigrants in this country went through what we\u2019re going through\u2014it\u2019s not really\u00a0specific and special to us. Of course, when things are happening with you, they\u2019re\u00a0specific and special to you, but you know, going again, back to history, the Italians\u00a0went through this, the Jews went through this, so we\u2019re really not the only ones\u00a0that\u2019s going through this\u2014it\u2019s just America and its history of giving hard time to the\u00a0new-comers. So, soon, insha\u2019Allah, we\u2019re going to, you know, prosper and it\u2019s going\u00a0to be history that we\u2019ll remember and tell our kids, I guess.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
