“And I contacted people and finally made contact with a deaf man from Ghana. He\u2019s\u00a0Muslim and he is who actually started the organization Global Deaf Muslim.\u00a0And I actually got in contact with him, I think, in 2006 and I\u2019ve been working\u00a0with him off and on since then. And now I have this huge network of deaf\u00a0Muslims that I\u2019ve become acquainted with, actually across the globe. They\u2019re\u00a0in Australia, in Dubai and we all keep in touch electronically through\u00a0Facebook and through email and video phones.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a non-profit organization and their main goal is to give the deaf Muslims\u00a0throughout the US and across the globe, eventually access to their religious\u00a0teachings. We have a project going on right now where we\u2019re fund raising\u00a0around the US in order to translate the Holy Quran into American Sign\u00a0Language. So that, the Quran has been translated into many different\u00a0languages, but never ASL. And so this is kind of a little bit of a historical event\u00a0for us and pretty ground breaking and we\u2019re excited about that.<\/p>\n

Locally, we just opened an office in St. Paul. So, Global Deaf Muslims has head\u00a0quarters in Maryland and the first branch office opened here in St. Paul in\u00a0January.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
