IRG-401: Teaching about Islam and Muslims: Practical Advice for Educators
The workshop will introduce the basic beliefs and practices in Islam. The main focus of the workshop will be on how to incorporate Islamic Culture Studies in the curriculum. The speaker will illustrate this by using practical examples such as diet, dress, gender relations, prayer, fasting, and Muslim holidays. The workshop is meant to help educators understand Islamic Culture and provide them with tools to better interact with Muslim parents and students.
IRG-402: Culturally Appropriate Care for Muslim Patients
This workshop is ideal for individuals who work in the health care field. A short overview will introduce some terminology, demographics and the basic beliefs and practices in Islam. The main part of this workshop focuses on health care related issues with Muslim patients and also examines cultural and religious issues around illness, treatments, dietary restrictions, birth, end of life, death etc. Case studies help in understanding the practical side in dealing with Muslim patients and on how to improve outcomes and communication between patients and providers.
IRG-403: Cultural Diversity Training on Islam and Muslims for Law Enforcement
IRG’s goal for working with law enforcement is to supplement cultural diversity training in law enforcement agencies as well as ensure the safety and security of Muslims in the current political climate. Our strategy for achieving this goal is to familiarize law enforcement with Islam and Muslim culture by teaching protocols for interaction with Muslims.
IRG-404: Cultural Diversity Training on Islam and Muslims for Businesses
This seminar begins with a conversation about common stereotypes and other barriers faced by Muslims in the workplace citing Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reports and other experiences in the workplace environment. This is followed by an overview of Muslim traditions and practices, pertinent contemporary issues, and their implications for Muslim employees, co-workers and clients. The seminar will also address tips and strategies for preventing discrimination, as well steps towards building an inclusive and productive work environment where all employees can perform their best.
